Programs Designed to Meet Real Needs and Create Lasting Change

Helping People Rebuild Their Lives

At Jackson House, we believe everyone deserves dignity, support, and a pathway to stability. Our comprehensive programs provide immediate assistance and long-term solutions for individuals and families facing homelessness, food insecurity, and personal crises.

Through compassionate care, community partnerships, and evidence-based approaches, we’re building a stronger, more resilient community where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

Jackson House Services

The majority of our client services are available to permanent residents of Garland County. Individuals seeking assistance must visit our office during operating hours: Monday–Wednesday from 9:30 am–3:00 pm, Thursday from 9:30 am–2:00 pm, and Friday from 9:30 am–3:00 pm. Our office is closed from 12:00 pm–1:00 pm. Monday through Wednesday and on Fridays; however, we remain open through the lunch hour on Thursdays.

Those interested in volunteering are encouraged to call the office or email our Volunteer Coordinator, Cherysh Lowe, at clowe@jacksonhouse.org to schedule a meeting and determine if the opportunity is a good fit.

We also partner with and refer clients to other nonprofit organizations throughout the area when additional or more comprehensive assistance is needed. During the intake interview process, clients are provided with a resource sheet that includes organizations offering services and support tailored to their specific needs.

Community Programs

Some of our community outreach programs include our Easter Basket Program and Christmas Toy Drive. Each Easter, we prepare and distribute Easter baskets filled with nutritious snacks, toys, hygiene items, comfort items, and, of course, candy. This year, we also included stuffed animals and distributed a total of 599 baskets. Many of these baskets were provided directly to our clients, while others were shared with community partners such as CASA, 100 Families, local elementary schools, Ouachita Children’s Center, Potter’s Clay, and several other organizations serving children and families in need.

During the Christmas season, we also provide toys and other holiday assistance to children in our community, helping make the holidays brighter for families facing hardship.

Community Events

One of the community events we participate in is the Library Concert Series. Every third Sunday of the month, we partner with the local library to host a free music concert that is open to everyone in the community. While donations are accepted and appreciated, they are never required for attendance.

Food Pantry

Food, including baby food and formula, is available to individuals or families in emergency cases. Food is provided to Jackson House through community can and dry goods pantry drives. Private, civic, and church donations also contribute to the Jackson House pantry. Referrals from the Department of Human Services, burnout referrals from the Red Cross, and referrals from other sources are accepted.

Thrift Store

Donations to the Jackson House Thrift Store help provide emergency clothing, household items, and essential goods to individuals and families who may not otherwise be able to afford them. In addition to supporting our client’s directly, donated items are also sold to the public, with 100% of the proceeds benefiting Jackson House programs and client services.

Every donation is deeply appreciated and is tax-deductible.

Our Thrift Store accepts donations at the rear donation entrance Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Food and hygiene item donations may be dropped off at the office during regular business hours.

For the safety of our staff and clients, we are unable to accept certain items, including biohazards, oxygen tanks, mattresses or beds, baby equipment such as strollers and car seats, opened or used medications or hygiene products, broken electronics, and used underwear. If you are unsure whether an item can be donated, please feel free to call us before bringing it in.

Emergency Assistance & Community Support at Jackson House

At Jackson House Crisis Intervention, we are a short-term emergency assistance crisis center dedicated to helping individuals and families during difficult times. We primarily provide food assistance once every six months, along with clothing, housewares, and hygiene kits every three months. In certain emergency situations, we may also provide what we call an “emergency box,” which contains smaller amounts of essential items for those facing immediate hardship.

Because we are not funded by the government or the city, our resources are limited, and we are only able to provide assistance to community members in need every six months. However, thanks to the incredible generosity of our local donors and volunteers, we are also able to offer many additional forms of support that we do not widely advertise.

Our mission is simple: to be an accepting and empathetic place the community can come to for help when in crisis and to provide hope, dignity, and compassion to neighbors in need when they need it most.

We serve individuals and families residing in Garland County who have lived in the county for at least six months. Clients are required to provide a local photo ID if they are already in our system. If they are not currently in our system, they must provide either a local photo ID or a bill or piece of mail showing a local address if they do not yet have a local ID.

Applicants must also provide their Social Security number, a DHS referral, or proof of SNAP benefits. If they would like to add household members to their case, such as a spouse or children, they must provide birth certificates or documentation proving legal custody of the child. If a birth certificate is unavailable, we may accept alternative documents such as doctor’s notes, school counselor documentation, or court records showing custody.
